O B J E C T I V E S
The Pangasinan State University Open University Systems shall develop further professionals and related workers for greater productivity and global competitiveness in the light of current and future scientific and technological developments, and develop instructional and production technologies through the conduct of research programs and extension services to identified sectors in the society.
Specifically, the PSU-OUS shall attain the following objectives:
Develop and implement programs and projects in instruction, research and extension to respond to the human resource development needs of the area,
Provide degree and non-degree programs to develop further professional and related workers,
Utilize multi-media instructional delivery systems suited to the needs of the clientele groups, Accredit previously acquired learnings from residential, experiential, non-formal systems, and others that are assessed and found to be within the standards in the particular program and the institution. Award degree and non-degree diplomas to successful individual who complete satisfactorily the requirements of the particular program, Link and work with other institutions and agencies through complementation and collaboration of programs and for faculty, curricular and management development. Develop effective instructional technologies through research and extension services to identified sectors of the society.
STRATEGIC GOALS
Enhance the institutional capacity for continuous individual, group and organizational development by generating and facilitating opportunities for alternative learning and teaching delivery systems.
Identify and use effective individual, group and organizational learning approaches with the use of appropriate technologies in collboration with international and local organizations.
Formulate, test, produce and use various interactive instructional and organizational development materials utilizing convergent technologies.
THE DELIVERY MODE
The program in the Open University Systems are delivered mostly on-the-job in a combination of modes. These are:
Face to face with the Professor in the work place or in the University. Small cluster learning mode with the stuents through actual discussions and interactions with Facilitators and/or professors. Self-directed learning mode with learning modules, study guides, assignment sheets and practical exercises. Practicum - for the non-degree programs, the preparation and implementation of an action research, or a development project by individual students. This is duly presented, implemented and defended by stages before a panel of Professors. Thesis - for the degree programs, the conuct of a thesis (research or performance study) is required for graduation. Before the thesis, the passing of a comprehensive examinations shall be satisfied. The study is also conducted by the student, and the results evaluated by a selected panel of Professors by stages.The PSU-OUS observes flexibility and responsiveness by designing and organizaing special non-degree programs that are needed by the organizations and other clientele groups, or upon expressed requests. The non-degree courses are accreditble to the appropriate degree programs upon application and compliance to requirements and standards.
