The Herald, as the official publication of PSU-OUS, is a fitting title which expresses the feelings, aspirations, and vision of everyone in this academic sanctum. It announces the break of dawn, or more aptly, a whistling in the dawn.
The shrill musical note produced by the sound indeed captures the intention of the writers in expressing a heartfelt joy in their written works. The dawn, a birth of a new day, also signifies the beginning of a new era that is like a nightly dream awakened into the dawn of reality. The sound that heralds the day is harmoniously mixed with a human and personal note that demands a personal response.
Indeed, today?s occasion is a special one. PSU-OUS is celebrating its first (1st) Alumni Home Coming on her tenth (10th) year anniversary. Coming-home from different locations and regions with different walks of life will gather here in this campus to recollect their years of academic life, only to be reminded that education is a continuing and a never ending pursuit and that the social aspect of education is of equal importance, too. As everyone laboriously tackled the rigors of the University learning process, a long process of social transformation also began. This social transformation creates a unique formation among graduates of PSU-OUS as a responsible member of society tasked to improve the quality of life of people and in nation building.
As everyone heralds the new dawn in the 21st century, let everyone redefine one's role to play in education as one's continuing objective and as a legacy to the future learners of tomorrow. But let no one forget that education cannot stand on its own without the social and the moral aspect of life.
"As things are...mankind are by no means agreed about the things to be taught, whether we look to virture or the best of life. Neither is it clear whether education is more concerned with intellectual or moral virtue" (Brubacher, 1978).
